Who is Scat Cat?

Scat Cat is a charismatic and musically gifted feline from Disney’s animated classic The Aristocats (1970).

As the leader of a jazz band of alley cats, Scat Cat epitomizes the swinging, free-spirited vibe of the jazz era. His group of cats, each unique in personality and instrument, performs the iconic song “Everybody Wants to Be a Cat,” a lively celebration of music, individuality, and camaraderie.

Originally, Scat Cat was conceived as a feline caricature of Louis Armstrong, the legendary jazz musician. Armstrong was even slated to voice the character but ultimately could not participate due to health reasons. The role was then given to Scatman Crothers, an accomplished jazz musician and actor, whose vibrant personality and smooth voice brought Scat Cat to life. Crothers infused the character with his signature charm and musicality, ensuring Scat Cat became an unforgettable part of The Aristocats.
