Who is Shanti (The Girl)?

Shanti is a character from Disney’s animated adaptation of The Jungle Book (1967) and its sequel, The Jungle Book 2 (2003). She is a young girl from the nearby human village who plays a pivotal role in Mowgli’s journey.

Introduced at the end of the original film, Shanti lures Mowgli away from the jungle and into the human world by singing a melodic tune while fetching water. Her presence symbolizes the allure of human life and the connection Mowgli ultimately feels to his own kind.

In The Jungle Book 2, Shanti’s character is expanded significantly. She is portrayed as Mowgli’s friend, whose cautious and responsible nature contrasts with his adventurous spirit.
