Who is Star Butterfly?
Star Butterfly is the titular protagonist of the Disney animated series Star vs. the Forces of Evil, created by Daron Nefcy.
The series, which premiered on Disney XD in January 2015, follows the adventures of Star, a lively, magical teenage princess from the alternate dimension of Mewni. Star is sent to Earth by her parents, King River and Queen Moon Butterfly, to learn responsibility after causing chaos with her magical wand. On Earth, she befriends Marco Diaz, a cautious but loyal teenager, and the two embark on numerous adventures across dimensions, battling villains and uncovering mysteries about Star’s family and Mewni’s history.
Star is characterized by her bright personality, impulsiveness, and strong sense of justice. While she initially appears carefree and naive, her character evolves throughout the series as she confronts darker aspects of her world, such as prejudice and political intrigue within Mewni’s monarchy. Her journey involves grappling with her identity, her feelings for Marco, and her role as a leader.
Star Butterfly is voiced by Eden Sher, an actress best known for her role as Sue Heck in the ABC sitcom The Middle.
