Who is The Grand Duke?

The Grand Duke is a character from Disney’s animated classic Cinderella (1950).

Serving as King’s right-hand man and chief advisor, the Grand Duke is tasked with overseeing the royal decree to find a suitable bride for Prince Charming. He is depicted as a proper and somewhat pompous figure, often flustered by the high-pressure task assigned to him. His role becomes central when he organizes the royal ball where all eligible maidens are invited to meet the prince. Later, he is entrusted with carrying out the search for the mysterious young woman who left behind the glass slipper.

The Grand Duke’s character provides comedic relief, particularly in scenes where he struggles to manage the King’s explosive temper while maintaining his own dignity. Despite his initial skepticism and bureaucratic demeanor, the Grand Duke plays a vital role in uniting Cinderella with Prince Charming, making him an indispensable part of the story.
