Who is The King?
The King from Disney’s Cinderella is a prominent supporting character in the 1950 animated classic. He is the father of Prince Charming and serves as a humorous and occasionally hot-tempered monarch.
Driven by a deep desire to see his son marry and provide him with grandchildren, the King orchestrates the royal ball to help his son find a suitable bride. His plans ultimately lead to Cinderella’s magical romance with Prince Charming. In the original 1950 animated film, The King was voiced by Luis van Rooten, who also provided the voice for the Grand Duke. Van Rooten’s ability to embody two contrasting characters showcases his versatile talent. In live-action adaptations, the character has been reimagined in different ways. For instance, in the 2015 Cinderella film, a more subdued version of The King was portrayed by actor Derek Jacobi, bringing a regal yet tender quality to the role.
