Who is The Magus?

The Magus is a character from Disney’s animated series Gargoyles, which originally aired from 1994 to 1997.

The Magus is a powerful and enigmatic sorcerer tied to the ancient history of the Gargoyles and their story of betrayal and redemption. He serves as a pivotal figure in the lore of the series, particularly in the events leading up to the Gargoyles’ tragic entrapment in stone by a magical spell for a thousand years.

The Magus is introduced as the royal court magician in service of Princess Katharine of Castle Wyvern. He is instrumental in casting the spell that turns Goliath and his clan into stone by day, believing at the time it was the only way to protect the castle from invaders. However, he comes to deeply regret his actions upon realizing the extent of his mistake and his misunderstanding of the Gargoyles’ intentions. Over time, he seeks to atone for his deeds, even dedicating his later life to protecting the remaining Gargoyle eggs and serving as their guardian alongside Princess Katharine and Tom the Guardian.

The Magus was voiced by Jeff Bennett, a prolific voice actor known for his work in numerous animated series, including Johnny Bravo and Dexter’s Laboratory.
