Who is Wilbur?
Wilbur is a comical and lovable albatross featured in The Rescuers Down Under (1990), the sequel to Disney’s 1977 film The Rescuers.
Wilbur serves as the brother of Orville, the albatross from the original movie. In a continuation of their shared role as transportation for the Rescue Aid Society, Wilbur provides a chaotic but dependable method of getting Bernard and Miss Bianca to their destination in Australia. He is named after Wilbur Wright, one of the pioneering Wright brothers in aviation, while his brother Orville was named after the other.
Wilbur’s character is notable for his humor, clumsiness, and infectious energy, bringing a lighthearted element to the story. Despite his bumbling nature, he is fiercely loyal and dedicated to helping Bernard and Miss Bianca on their mission to save Cody, a young boy captured by the poacher Percival C. McLeach.
Wilbur was voiced by John Candy, a beloved actor and comedian known for his roles in films like Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Uncle Buck.
