The song is performed by the film’s lead actress, Amy Adams, who portrays the character of Giselle. In the film, Giselle is a fairytale princess who has been transported from her animated world to modern-day New York City, where she meets a divorce lawyer named Robert, played by Patrick Dempsey. The song “So Close” is a romantic ballad that is sung by Giselle and Robert as they dance together at the King and Queen’s ball, and realize their feelings for each other. The song was written by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
