Disney Dominates 2024 Box Office, Surpassing $2 Billion in Domestic Revenue
Published on 12/19/24 by Craig Smith
In 2024, Disney reaffirmed its dominance in the film industry by becoming the sole studio to surpass $2 billion in domestic box office revenue. This achievement mirrors its 2019 success, underscoring Disney’s consistent appeal to audiences.
A significant contributor to this milestone was Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” which grossed over $652 million domestically, making it the highest-grossing animated film in U.S. history.
Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” also played a pivotal role, earning approximately $636 million domestically and ranking as the second highest-grossing movie of 2024.
Additionally, “Moana 2” contributed significantly with a domestic gross of over $344 million, despite mixed fan reactions.
Disney’s strategic acquisitions, such as 20th Century Studios, further bolstered its box office performance. Notable releases like “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” which grossed $171 million domestically, and “Alien: Romulus,” with $105 million, showcased the studio’s diverse and compelling content slate.
This impressive box office performance not only highlights Disney’s effective content strategy but also reflects a broader industry rebound, with projections indicating a potential $8.5 billion total box office for the year.
Disney’s success in 2024 underscores its ability to captivate audiences with a blend of original storytelling and franchise continuations, solidifying its position at the forefront of the entertainment industry.
