IG-88 is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise, and is one of the infamous bounty hunters hired by Darth Vader to find and capture Han Solo in “The Empire Strikes Back.” IG-88 is a droid, specifically an assassin droid, with a humanoid body and a head that resembles a large, spiky lampshade. Like all assassin droids, IG-88 is programmed to kill, and is known for its ruthlessness and efficiency. IG-88 is also notable for having developed a degree of sentience and self-awareness, which allows it to act and make decisions on its own, without being controlled by a human or other entity. Although IG-88 has only a brief appearance in “The Empire Strikes Back,” the character has been featured in numerous other Star Wars stories, including novels, comics, and video games.
