Who is R5-D4?
R5-D4 is a minor character in the Star Wars franchise. He is an astromech droid who appears briefly in the 1977 film “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.” R5-D4 is one of several droids that are being offered for sale by the Jawas to Luke Skywalker’s uncle, Owen Lars, but his motivator malfunctions, prompting Owen to choose R2-D2 instead. Later, it is revealed that R5-D4’s malfunction was actually a deliberate act of sabotage by R2-D2, who had been tasked by Princess Leia to deliver a message to the Rebel Alliance. R5-D4 is not seen again in the Star Wars saga after this brief appearance.
