Who is Bobo the Bear?
Bobo the Bear is a character from The Muppets franchise. He is a large, laid-back brown bear who is known for his good-natured, easygoing personality, often serving as comic relief in various Muppet productions. Unlike many of the more chaotic or eccentric Muppets, Bobo tends to be calm and somewhat dimwitted, which often lands him in humorous situations.
Bobo is commonly seen working in mundane jobs, such as a security guard or a stagehand, in different Muppet projects. His most notable role is in the 1999 film Muppets from Space, where he serves as a security guard for the villain, Jeffrey Tambor’s character, Ed Singer. Throughout the film, Bobo is a loyal, yet clueless, sidekick who often ends up being more endearing than effective in his role.
The character of Bobo is performed by Bill Barretta, who has portrayed him since his debut in Muppets Tonight in the mid-1990s. Barretta, a longtime puppeteer with The Muppets, brings Bobo to life with a dry sense of humor and a distinctively deep, gravelly voice, adding to Bobo’s charm as a lovable but bumbling bear.
