Who is Constance Hatchaway?
Constance Hatchaway, often referred to simply as “The Bride,” is a character from Disney’s Haunted Mansion attraction. She is a spectral bride who haunts the attic of the mansion, known for her sinister and darkly humorous backstory.
Constance is infamous for having married several wealthy husbands, each of whom met a mysterious and untimely death. Her character is most recognizable by her eerie, bridal attire and the unsettling, illuminated grin she sports in the attraction.
Throughout the Haunted Mansion’s attic, clues to her story are hidden, including portraits of Constance with each of her deceased husbands, whom she allegedly murdered to inherit their fortunes. As guests move through the attic, they can hear her repeating unsettling vows, such as “till death do us part,” hinting at her chilling intentions.
The character of Constance has become a fan favorite within Disney lore, representing the more macabre side of Disney’s storytelling. While she primarily exists within the ride, she’s appeared in various Haunted Mansion adaptations, including the 2023 Haunted Mansion film and the franchise’s expanded universe, cementing her as one of Disney’s most iconic ghostly figures.
