Who is Jock?

Jock is a charming and loyal Scottish Terrier in Disney’s animated classic Lady and the Tramp, originally released in 1955. He is a close friend of the main character, Lady, and serves as a protective, wise companion to her throughout the story.

Jock is known for his thick Scottish accent, endearing personality, and occasional mispronunciations due to his brogue. He is very proud and protective of his belongings, especially his “bones,” which he has buried meticulously around the yard. Despite his seemingly gruff and serious demeanor, he has a warm heart and is deeply loyal to his friends, especially Lady and her companion, Trusty the Bloodhound. Throughout the film, Jock often provides comic relief with his quirky habits and his loyalty, which plays a crucial role in Lady’s journey.

In the original 1955 animated film, Jock was voiced by veteran actor Bill Thompson. Thompson was known for his ability to bring life to various Disney characters, including Mr. Smee in Peter Pan and the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. For the 2019 live-action adaptation of Lady and the Tramp, Jock was voiced by Scottish actress Ashley Jensen, who infused the character with a modern yet distinctly Scottish charm, bringing a fresh take to the beloved terrier.
