Who is Madellaine?
Madellaine is a key character in The Hunchback of Notre Dame II, the direct-to-video sequel to Disney’s 1996 animated classic. She serves as Quasimodo’s love interest, marking a significant development in his journey toward self-acceptance and happiness.
Madellaine is introduced as a kind-hearted and compassionate woman who works as a performer and assistant to the film’s antagonist, Sarousch, a manipulative and greedy magician. Initially, she is coerced into helping Sarousch steal the famed La Fidèle bell from Notre Dame Cathedral by distracting Quasimodo. However, as she gets to know Quasimodo, she comes to see his inner beauty, warmth, and kindness, leading her to develop genuine feelings for him. Her arc is one of redemption, as she ultimately defies Sarousch to help save Notre Dame and protect Quasimodo.
