Who is Mary Poppins?

Mary Poppins is a fictional character created by Australian-British author P. L. Travers. She is the titular character of the Mary Poppins series of children’s books, which were first published in the 1930s, and the eponymous 1964 musical film produced by Walt Disney. She was played by Julie Andrews in the film.

Mary Poppins is a magical nanny who is employed by a London banker, George Banks, and his wife Winifred, to take care of their children. She is kind and strict, but also has a sense of humor and a magical touch which allows her to make the impossible happen. She is able to fly with an umbrella, and carries a carpet bag from which she can pull a variety of interesting items.
