Mugsy Toccata (The Great Movie Ride)
Last Updated on: November 15th, 2024
Who is Mugsy Toccata?
Mugsy Toccata is a fictional character created specifically for The Great Movie Ride, a former attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World. Mugsy played a crucial role during a specific scene in the attraction’s storyline, providing a dramatic and interactive experience for guests.
Set within a classic film noir scenario, Mugsy is a stereotypical 1930s gangster with a rough demeanor and distinct New York accent. His character appears in a section of the ride that recreates the classic film The Public Enemy, starring James Cagney. As the ride vehicle moves through a city street scene, guests encounter Mugsy during a heist. At a key moment, Mugsy (or sometimes a female gangster named “Beans”) hijacks the ride, forcibly “taking control” of the vehicle and leading guests through part of the attraction. This hijacking adds an element of surprise, immersing visitors in a live-action movie moment before the original guide eventually returns.
Mugsy’s scene was a favorite among Disney fans, adding a layer of classic cinema charm and interactivity to The Great Movie Ride, which operated from 1989 to 2017. The ride was eventually replaced by Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, but Mugsy remains a nostalgic character for fans of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
