Who is Nancy Tremaine?

Nancy Tremaine is a character from Disney’s live-action fairy tale movie Enchanted (2007) and its sequel, Disenchanted (2022).

In Enchanted, Nancy is the sophisticated and career-driven girlfriend of Robert Philip, a single father living in New York City. Initially, she represents the more practical, grounded counterpart to the whimsical and naive Giselle, who accidentally enters the real world from her animated fantasy realm. Nancy is portrayed as elegant, kind-hearted, and supportive of Robert, although their relationship lacks the spark of true love.

Nancy’s character takes a surprising turn at the end of Enchanted. When Robert realizes he’s truly in love with Giselle, Nancy finds herself unexpectedly swept off her feet by Prince Edward, Giselle’s romantic and chivalrous suitor from the animated world. She and Edward return to the animated kingdom of Andalasia, where they marry and live happily ever after.

In the sequel Disenchanted, Nancy is shown to be thriving as Queen of Andalasia, continuing her role as a regal, glamorous figure while also being a helpful ally to Giselle and her family.

Nancy Tremaine is portrayed by actress Idina Menzel, a celebrated Broadway performer known for her roles in Wicked and as the voice of Elsa in Disney’s Frozen franchise.
