Who is Redd?

Redd is a prominent character from the Pirates of the Caribbean theme park attractions at Disneyland and other Disney parks worldwide.

Originally, she was part of a scene in the classic attraction where she was up for auction, depicted as a “bride” in a sequence where pirates bid for women as prizes. However, in 2018, Disney reimagined her character, transforming Redd into a strong-willed pirate who takes control of her destiny.

Now, Redd is portrayed as a self-sufficient pirate with a fiery personality and a knack for getting what she wants. She has her own backstory as a plunderer of the Caribbean, skilled in sailing and treasure hunting, and no longer appears as a captive. Instead, she stands proudly as a pirate, with her own ambitions and a sharp wit. She’s known for saying, “It’s the rum they want!” referring to her pirate stash, making her a more independent and empowered character than in her previous depiction.

Redd’s character overhaul reflects Disney’s commitment to updating legacy attractions with more empowering portrayals, celebrating strong female characters in the spirit of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
