Who is Ronald “Ron” Thompson?

Ronald “Ron” Thompson is a central character in Disney’s 1989 sci-fi comedy film, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. He is the teenage son of the Thompson family, who live next door to the Szalinskis, the inventors of the movie’s titular shrinking technology.

Played by actor Jared Rushton, Ron is a brash, sarcastic, and somewhat self-centered teenager, though he shows moments of bravery and loyalty.

In the movie, Ron initially comes across as a typical rebellious teen who doesn’t get along with his younger brother, Little Russ, or his neighbor, Amy Szalinski. Despite his tough exterior, Ron displays vulnerability and growth throughout the film. When he and the other kids are accidentally shrunk to miniature size by Wayne Szalinski’s experimental shrinking machine, Ron must band together with the group to navigate the enormous perils of the backyard, now a jungle-like environment filled with giant insects, blades of grass, and other hazards.
