Who is Sheriff of Nottingham?

The Sheriff of Nottingham is a classic Disney villain featured in the animated film Robin Hood (1973).

In this anthropomorphic retelling of the legendary Robin Hood tale, the Sheriff is depicted as a wolf and serves as the right-hand enforcer of Prince John, the power-hungry lion who rules Nottingham in King Richard’s absence. The Sheriff is charged with collecting exorbitant taxes from the impoverished townsfolk, often resorting to bullying and intimidation to meet Prince John’s demands. Despite his menacing role, the character is portrayed with a degree of comedic incompetence, frequently outsmarted by the clever Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men.

The Sheriff’s personality is a mix of brute force and sycophantic loyalty to Prince John, making him a despised figure among the townspeople but a perfect foil for Robin Hood’s heroism.
