Who is Sulley?
James P. “Sulley” Sullivan, better known as Sulley, is one of the central characters in Disney and Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. and its prequel, Monsters University.
Sulley is a large, blue, furry monster with purple spots and horns, known for his gentle nature despite his intimidating appearance. In Monsters, Inc., he works as a top scarer at Monsters, Inc., a company that generates energy for the monster world by scaring human children. However, his perspective on scaring changes when he befriends a human child named Boo, leading to the discovery of a new, more powerful energy source: laughter.
In Monsters University, Sulley’s origins and growth as a character are explored. Initially a cocky and talented scarer, he learns the importance of teamwork and humility through his friendship with his partner and best friend, Mike Wazowski.
Sulley’s voice is brought to life by actor John Goodman, whose warm and deep voice perfectly captures the character’s blend of strength, kindness, and humor. Goodman’s performance has become iconic, cementing Sulley as one of Pixar’s most beloved characters.
