Who is Trusty?

Trusty is a beloved character from Disney’s classic animated film Lady and the Tramp, released in 1955.

A retired bloodhound, Trusty is one of Lady’s loyal canine friends who lives in the same neighborhood. Once known for his exceptional tracking skills, he is often reminiscing about his glory days with his late owner, a Southern gentleman, and his famous “grandpappy,” Old Reliable. However, humorously, Trusty frequently forgets what exactly Old Reliable was reliable for. Despite his advanced age and diminished tracking abilities, Trusty is warm-hearted, protective, and displays remarkable bravery.

Trusty plays a crucial role in the story’s climax. He, alongside Jock, helps save Tramp from being taken to the pound, demonstrating that his instincts and courage remain intact despite his years. His character adds depth to the film through his Southern charm, gentle demeanor, and sense of loyalty.

In the original 1955 film, Trusty was voiced by actor Bill Baucom, who brought the character’s Southern drawl and gentle personality to life. Trusty was also brought back in the 2019 live-action/CGI remake of Lady and the Tramp, where the character was voiced by actor Sam Elliott, who captured Trusty’s dignified and endearing nature.
