Who is Wheezy the Penguin?

Wheezy the Penguin is a beloved character from Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story franchise, first appearing in Toy Story 2 (1999). He is a small, black-and-white rubber squeak toy resembling a penguin with a red bowtie.

Wheezy the Penguin (Toy Story)

Wheezy is known for his endearing personality and melancholy demeanor, stemming from his broken squeaker, which leaves him unable to make his signature sound. Left neglected on a high shelf in Andy’s room, Wheezy becomes a symbol of forgotten toys yearning for attention and care.

His pivotal moment comes when Woody rescues him during a yard sale, exemplifying the bond and loyalty between toys in the Toy Story series. In a memorable scene near the end of the film, Wheezy gets a new squeaker, which restores his ability to sing. He joyfully belts out a jazzy rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” showcasing his newfound happiness and spirit.

Wheezy is voiced by the late Joe Ranft, a Pixar animator, writer, and voice actor who contributed to many of the studio’s iconic films. Ranft’s heartfelt and humorous portrayal of Wheezy added depth to the character, making him a fan favorite and an unforgettable part of Toy Story lore.
