In the film, the song is performed by Hayley Mills, who plays twin sisters Susan and Sharon. The two girls meet for the first time at a summer camp and discover that they are sisters. In an effort to bring their estranged parents back together, they sing “Let’s Get Together” as a duet at a campfire gathering.

“Let’s Get Together” was later covered by the American pop group The Youngbloods in 1967, and their version became a hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song has since become a classic, and has been covered by many other artists over the years.
