Mission to Mars | Disneyland

Last Updated on: October 25th, 2024

Mission to Mars was an attraction at Disneyland in Anaheim, California that opened in 1975. It was located in Tomorrowland and replaced the previous attraction “Flight to the Moon.”

The attraction used the same theater and basic format as its predecessor, but the story was updated to reflect the era’s fascination with space travel and exploration. Guests would board a spacecraft and embark on a journey to Mars, guided by a witty and informative audio-animatronic host named Mr. Johnson.

Once they arrived on the Red Planet, guests would experience various effects, such as simulated landing and liftoff, and witness various Martian landscapes and habitats. The attraction utilized a combination of animatronics, special effects, and projections to create a realistic and immersive experience.

Mission to Mars operated until 1992, when it was replaced by the attraction “Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port.” However, some elements of the attraction, such as the Mr. Johnson animatronic, were reused in subsequent attractions at other Disney parks.
