Who is Volstagg?
Volstagg is a character in Marvel Comics and a member of the Warriors Three, a group of Asgardian warriors and close friends of Thor, the God of Thunder.
In the comics, Volstagg was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby and first appeared in “Journey into Mystery” #119 in 1965. He is depicted as a larger-than-life and boisterous Asgardian warrior known for his immense size, strength, and voracious appetite. Volstagg is often portrayed as a humorous and good-natured character, providing comic relief in many Thor stories.
As a member of the Warriors Three, Volstagg fights alongside his companions, Hogun and Fandral, in various battles and adventures. They are known for their loyalty to Asgard and their camaraderie with Thor, often sharing both heroic and humorous moments.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Volstagg appears as one of the Warriors Three in the films “Thor” (2011), “Thor: The Dark World” (2013), and “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017). He is portrayed by actor Ray Stevenson.
In the MCU, Volstagg’s character aligns with his comic book counterpart, being a boisterous and jovial warrior. Alongside Fandral and Hogun, he supports Thor in his quests and battles, fighting alongside him in the defense of Asgard.
In “Thor: Ragnarok,” during the events of Hela’s attack on Asgard, Volstagg and Fandral are killed by the powerful villainess, showcasing the seriousness and stakes of the conflict.
While Volstagg’s appearances in the MCU are relatively brief, he remains a memorable and beloved character, known for his humorous personality and loyalty to his friends and kingdom.
