Zootopia 2 Sprinting Past $1 Billion Globally in Record Time
Published on 12/14/25 by Craig Smith
Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia 2 has officially joined the elite billion-dollar club, crossing the $1 billion mark at the global box office just 17 days after its theatrical debut. This rapid ascent makes the animated sequel the fastest PG-rated and one of the quickest animated films ever to reach this milestone worldwide.
Released on November 26, 2025, Zootopia 2 built on a historic opening weekend that grossed more than $550 million globally, setting a new benchmark for animated films and ranking among the largest worldwide launches in cinema history. Its worldwide total includes strong domestic receipts and an exceptionally robust performance in international markets, especially China, where the film shattered local records for a foreign animated title.
The sequel continues the adventures of Officer Judy Hopps and con artist-turned-partner Nick Wilde, with returning voice talent including Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman. Audiences and critics alike have embraced the film, which has also driven renewed interest in the original Zootopia and related content on Disney’s streaming platform.
This accomplishment marks a major commercial success for Disney Animation, becoming its fifth film to surpass $1 billion globally since 2013 and following last year’s Moana 2 as part of back-to-back billion-dollar hits for the studio. Industry analysts observe that Zootopia 2’s performance offers a strong boost to the year’s box office, affirming the enduring appeal of family-oriented animated features in the global theatrical market.
