The Hitchhiking Ghosts—Phineas (the Traveler), Ezra (the Skeleton), and Gus (the Prisoner)—are the legendary trio that marks the finale of Disney’s The Haunted Mansion. Since 1969, they have been “following guests home,” utilizing a mix of Pepper’s Ghost illusions and, more recently, digital CGI effects to hop into Doom Buggies alongside mortal riders.

Magic Kingdom Facade Refresh (February 2026)

As of February 5, 2026, the iconic Gracey Estate in Liberty Square is partially under wraps. Massive green scaffolding and scrims have been erected for a routine “cycle of life” restoration. While the ride remains fully operational, the landscaping around the interactive queue has been thinned. This “deforestation” is a permanent shift to accommodate the rising spires of the upcoming Villains Land and the Piston Peak National Park expansion happening just beyond the mansion’s walls.

Hitchhiking at Sea: The Haunted Mansion Parlor

The ghosts have officially left the shore! In early 2026, the Haunted Mansion Parlor on the Disney Treasure and the newly launched Disney Destiny has become the #1 destination for Mansion fans. The lounge features exclusive drinks like the “Ghoulish Delight” and incorporates the Hitchhiking Ghosts into the bar’s digital “windows,” where they can be seen haunting the ship’s deck in spectral form.
Pro Tip: As of May 2026, couples can even book “Spirited Weddings” inside the Parlor on the Disney Destiny.

Where to Find the Trio in 2026

  • Magic Kingdom & Disneyland: Look for them in the mirror sequence at the end of the attraction. In 2026, keep an eye on the “interactive” versions that now swap heads with guests or “blow bubbles” in your Doom Buggy.
  • Disney California Adventure: During the Oogie Boogie Bash (returning Fall 2026), look for rare meet-and-greet opportunities with the trio on the trail.
  • Tokyo Disneyland: Experience the “Holiday Nightmare” overlay through early January 2026, where the ghosts take on a festive, Tim Burton-inspired look.
