Who is Mushu?

Mushu is a beloved character from Disney’s animated classic Mulan (1998). He is a small, witty, and endearing dragon who serves as Mulan’s guardian and comic relief throughout her journey.

Mushu is initially a disgraced family guardian who accidentally destroys the Great Stone Dragon and decides to take its place, determined to prove his worth. Tasked with aiding Mulan in bringing honor to her family, Mushu joins her as she disguises herself as a man to take her father’s place in the army.

Mushu’s vibrant personality, quick wit, and mischievous nature make him a standout character. Though often self-serving, he grows to deeply care for Mulan and supports her in becoming a hero. His actions ultimately help save China and restore honor not only to Mulan but also to himself.

Mushu was voiced by the legendary comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, whose lively performance brought the dragon to life with humor and charm. Murphy’s distinctive voice and impeccable comedic timing made Mushu an instant favorite among fans. Although Mushu does not appear in the 2020 live-action adaptation of Mulan, his legacy as one of Disney’s most iconic sidekicks endures.
