Who is Scar?

Scar is one of Disney’s most iconic villains, introduced in the 1994 animated classic The Lion King. He is the cunning and ruthless brother of Mufasa, the King of the Pride Lands, and the uncle of Simba, the film’s protagonist.

Driven by jealousy and ambition, Scar schemes to seize the throne by orchestrating Mufasa’s death and manipulating Simba into believing he is responsible. His sinister actions plunge the Pride Lands into despair under his tyrannical rule until Simba returns to reclaim his rightful place as king.

Scar is characterized by his lean, dark-maned appearance, a distinctive scar over his left eye (which inspired his name), and his smooth yet menacing demeanor. His intelligence and silver tongue make him a master manipulator, and his chilling line, “Long live the king,” underscores his treachery.

In the original animated film, Scar was voiced by the esteemed British actor Jeremy Irons, whose velvety, sinister tone added depth to the character. For the 2019 live-action adaptation, Scar was portrayed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, who brought a darker, more grounded interpretation to the role.
