moana 2Disney’s Moana 2 has made a historic splash at the box office, achieving a record-breaking $221 million domestically over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend. This impressive performance surpasses the previous record held by Frozen II, which earned $125 million during the same period in 2019.

Internationally, Moana 2 garnered an additional $165.3 million, bringing its global opening to approximately $386.3 million. This makes it the second-largest worldwide debut of 2024, trailing only behind Pixar’s Inside Out 2.

The film’s success is attributed to its broad appeal, with an estimated 44% of the audience under 17 years old.

The sequel reunites Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) and the demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) three years after their original adventure, as they embark on a new voyage across the Pacific.

Moana 2 also set new records for the highest Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday earnings, with $28 million and $54.5 million, respectively.

This marks a significant rebound for Disney Animation, following less successful releases in previous years.

The film’s outstanding performance has contributed to the highest-grossing Thanksgiving weekend in box office history, with total earnings estimated at $420 million across all films.

Moana 2 is now playing in theaters worldwide, with releases in Japan, Thailand, and Hong Kong scheduled for the coming week.
