‘Zootopia 2’ Roars to Record as Disney’s Top-Grossing Animated Feature

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Zootopia 2 has officially become the highest-grossing animated film in the studio’s history, surpassing the long-held record of Frozen 2 with a staggering $1.46 billion at the global box office. The animated sequel’s performance marks a major milestone for Disney and underscores the continued strength of family-oriented theatrical releases in a challenging box office landscape.

Released on November 26, 2025, Zootopia 2 opened over the Thanksgiving weekend and quickly gained momentum, recording one of the biggest global animated openings of the year. It crossed the $1 billion mark in just 17 days, making it the fastest PG-rated animated film to achieve that threshold. Strong international demand-particularly in China where it has grossed more than $500 million-helped fuel its rapid ascent.

Domestically, the film has earned over $333 million, while international markets have contributed more than $1.13 billion, reflecting its broad global appeal. The sequel’s success has also helped drive renewed interest in the original 2016 Zootopia and related spin-off content on Disney’s streaming platforms.

While Zootopia 2 now holds the title as Disney Animation’s most successful film ever, it remains behind the all-time animated global leader, Ne Zha 2, which has grossed over $2.2 billion worldwide. Nevertheless, the sequel’s achievement reinforces Disney’s dominance in animated storytelling and highlights the enduring popularity of its theatrical releases.
