Cruella de Vil is a fictional character from the 1956 novel “The Hundred and One Dalmatians” by Dodie Smith. She is a wealthy, fashion-obsessed woman who becomes obsessed with owning a fur coat made from the skins of Dalmatian puppies. She is the main antagonist of the novel, and its various adaptations, including the 1961 Disney animated film “One Hundred and One Dalmatians” and its 1996 live-action adaptation “101 Dalmatians.” The character is known for her outrageous sense of style, her fondness for cigarettes and her distinctive half-black, half-white hair. She is often portrayed as being cruel, cunning and ruthless in her pursuit of the puppies. She is voiced by Betty Lou Gerson (who was also the narrator in Cinderella) in the original animated film and has been played by several actress in other adaptations.
