Who is Pongo?

Pongo is one of the central characters in Disney’s animated classic One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961). He is a charming and clever Dalmatian, the loyal pet of songwriter Roger Radcliffe.

Pongo plays a pivotal role in the story, which begins with his desire to find a mate for both himself and his owner. He successfully orchestrates a meeting between Roger and Anita, who own a female Dalmatian named Perdita. Their romance leads to marriage, and Pongo and Perdita eventually have a litter of 15 puppies.

The story takes a dramatic turn when the villainous Cruella de Vil kidnaps the puppies, along with others, to create a Dalmatian fur coat. Pongo becomes a hero, leading a daring rescue mission alongside Perdita to save their puppies and the other stolen Dalmatians. His resourcefulness, bravery, and unwavering love for his family make him a standout Disney character.

In the original animated film, Pongo was voiced by Rod Taylor, an Australian actor best known for his work in The Time Machine (1960) and The Birds (1963).
