The Walt Disney Company has a rich and lengthy history with decades of amazing movies, shows and park experiences. To commemorate Disney’s 100th birthday this year, I am spotlighting the company’s history year by year in this new ‘Disney by the Years’ series.
Here is a quick rundown of everything that happened in the world of Disney in the year 1951. I hope you find this lookback in time helpful and entertaining.
Disney Movies Headlines in 1951:
In 1951, Disney only released one feature film, but it was a big one. In July, the company released Alice in Wonderland. The animated movie was initially considered a failure, but has since become a classic and has enjoyed more success in re-issues and physical media than it did originally at the box office.
Also in 1951, Disney won an Oscar for the short “In Beaver Valley.”
Disney Television Headlines in 1951:
While Disney was still a few years away from taking over Sunday nights for decades to come, Walt did test the TV waters in 1951 with a Christmas special. On December 25th, “The Walt Disney Christmas Show” aired on CBS television stations.
That’s all for 1951. Stay tuned for in-depth looks at additional years in the very near future!
