Living with the Land may not be EPCOT’s loudest attraction, but few rides capture the original spirit of the park better. In this video, we take a deep dive into the history of The Land pavilion and the boat ride that began as Listen to the Land before evolving into the attraction Disney World guests know today. We’ll look at how the ride was created, its original scenes and narration, the changes that transformed it into Living with the Land, and the working greenhouses that make it unlike almost anything else at Walt Disney World. Along the way, we explore the innovative growing techniques Disney has demonstrated over the years, the attraction’s connection to EPCOT’s original mission, and why this quiet boat ride has managed to survive decades of major changes around it. For longtime EPCOT fans, Living with the Land is more than a relaxing break from the crowds — it is one of the strongest remaining links to the EPCOT Center that opened in 1982. Disney World GeoGuessr Challenge | Can You Guess the WDW Ride from a POV Image?
For 50 years, one stretch of Bay Lake shoreline has had one of the strangest histories anywhere at Walt Disney World. It began in 1976 as River Country, Disney World’s first water park and a rustic swimming hole filled with slides, beaches, rockwork, and filtered Bay Lake water. After closing in 2001, Disney did something unusual: it left much of the park standing, allowing nature to slowly reclaim the abandoned attractions. Nearly two decades later, Disney finally demolished River Country to build Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge. Construction began, the old water park disappeared, and then the pandemic brought the project to a sudden halt. For years, the site sat behind construction walls as another unfinished chapter in the property’s history. Now Disney is trying again. Disney Lakeshore Lodge is scheduled to open in 2027 with nearly 1,000 rooms, Disney Vacation Club villas, waterfront Lake Houses, restaurants, pools, and even a lazy river — bringing water attractions back to the former River Country shoreline more than 25 years after the original park closed. In this video, we trace the complete story of River Country, its years as an abandoned Disney ghost town, the rise and fall of Reflections, and the long-awaited rebirth of Bay Lake as Disney Lakeshore Lodge. Would you stay at Lakeshore Lodge, or do you still wish River Country had survived? My passion for all things Disney goes pretty far back to watching The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights and enjoying my first trip to Walt Disney World in the mid-80's. I have since returned to the magical place more than 30 times. I started this site when I came to the realization that I spent a significant portion of my day reading articles about Disney and watching Disney content with my 8-year old, so it made sense that I would start sharing some of what I read and see and build a little community around it.
