Buzz Lightyear is the high-flying deuteragonist of the Disney/Pixar Toy Story franchise. Originally a toy who famously didn’t realize he was a toy, Buzz has evolved into a symbol of courage, friendship, and the enduring legacy of Pixar Animation Studios.
Toy Story 5: The “Toy vs. Tech” Era (2026)
Coming to theaters on June 19, 2026, Toy Story 5 finds Buzz Lightyear facing his greatest threat yet: the Lilypad tablet. In this installment, Buzz and the gang must battle for Bonnie’s attention as she becomes more interested in electronics than traditional playtime. Tim Allen has officially finished recording his lines, teasing an “unbelievable” opening scene involving a “sea of Buzz Lightyears” stranded on a desert island.
Space Ranger Spin: The 2026 Reimagining
The original Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom is currently undergoing its most significant refurbishment since opening in 1998. When it reopens in Spring 2026, Space Rangers can expect:
- Handheld Blasters: The fixed blasters are gone! New, unattached blasters with real-time laser tracking will finally allow for precise aiming.
- Digital Scoring: New ride vehicles (XP-38 Star Cruisers) feature onboard digital screens to track your score and rank.
- New Character: Meet Buddy, a new support robot created by Imagineering who assists Buzz in the loading area.
Where to Find Buzz Today
While his Magic Kingdom ride is under construction, you can still find Buzz Lightyear at these locations:
- Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Meet Buzz daily in **Toy Story Land**, located just across from the entrance to Roundup Rodeo BBQ.
- Disneyland Park: Buzz continues to protect the galaxy at Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland, which remains open with its classic “pick-up” blasters.
- Disneyland Paris: Look for him at the newly refreshed Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast in Discoveryland.
