Who is James Rhodes / War Machine?
James Rhodes, commonly known as War Machine, is a heroic character in Marvel Comics and a significant figure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He was created by writer David Michelinie and artist Bob Layton and first appeared in “Iron Man” #118 in 1979.
In the comics, James “Rhodey” Rhodes is a close friend and confidant of Tony Stark (Iron Man). He is a highly skilled pilot and a former U.S. Marine Corps officer. Rhodes first becomes involved with Tony Stark’s life when he saves Tony’s life during the Vietnam War. Later, he assumes the mantle of Iron Man when Tony is battling alcoholism, becoming the armored superhero War Machine.
As War Machine, Rhodey dons a heavily armored suit equipped with advanced weaponry and military-grade technology. He operates as a solo hero and a member of various superhero teams, including the Avengers and the West Coast Avengers.
