Who is Scrooge McDuck?

Scrooge McDuck, a beloved character from Disney, is a Scottish-American anthropomorphic duck known for his immense wealth, sharp wit, and adventurous spirit.

Created by Carl Barks, Scrooge first appeared in the comic story Christmas on Bear Mountain in 1947. As the richest duck in the world, he is famously depicted with a top hat, pince-nez glasses, and a red frock coat. He resides in Duckburg, where his iconic Money Bin, filled with gold coins he often dives into, serves as a symbol of his financial success.

Scrooge’s character embodies a mix of traits: he is a shrewd businessman with a sometimes grumpy demeanor but also possesses a heart of gold, showing great affection for his nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie, as well as his great-nephew Donald Duck. His adventures often take him around the world, hunting treasures and battling villains, as showcased in the popular animated series DuckTales (1987-1990 and its 2017 reboot).

Several voice actors have brought Scrooge to life. The legendary Alan Young voiced Scrooge from his debut in Scrooge McDuck and Money (1967) until his passing in 2016. In the DuckTales reboot, David Tennant took over the role, delivering a fresh yet faithful portrayal of the iconic character.
