Who is Tiana?
Tiana is the beloved protagonist of Disney’s animated film The Princess and the Frog (2009), notable for being Disney’s first African American princess. She is an ambitious, hardworking young woman living in New Orleans during the 1920s.
Tiana dreams of owning her own restaurant, inspired by her late father’s passion for cooking and his dream of providing a gathering place for family and friends. Her journey begins when she encounters Prince Naveen, who has been turned into a frog by a wicked witch doctor, Dr. Facilier. A kiss meant to break the spell backfires, transforming Tiana into a frog as well. Together, they embark on a thrilling adventure through the Louisiana bayou, discovering love and the importance of balancing dreams with relationships along the way.
Tiana’s character is voiced by Anika Noni Rose, an acclaimed actress and singer. Rose’s performance brought depth and authenticity to Tiana, capturing her resilience, warmth, and determination. Her voice work, combined with the film’s vibrant animation and memorable jazz-inspired soundtrack, helped make Tiana a groundbreaking and enduring figure in Disney’s princess lineup.
