Who is Wendell?
Wendell is a lively and comical character from The Country Bear Jamboree, a beloved Disney attraction first introduced at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World in 1971.
Wendell is one of the show’s many animatronic bears, known for his high-pitched, nasally voice and cheerful demeanor. He is easily recognized by his bright red hair, buck teeth, and a unique raccoon-skin hat. Wendell’s endearing personality and quirky appearance make him a standout in the lineup of performers.
In the original show, Wendell is featured as a solo performer and as part of group numbers. He is best known for singing the humorous song “Mama, Don’t Whip Little Buford,” in which he pleads with his mother not to punish his pet Buford. Wendell’s playful nature and comedic timing add levity to the show, making him a fan favorite.
The original voice of Wendell was performed by Bill Cole, whose distinctive tone brought the character to life. Cole’s portrayal helped establish Wendell’s personality as one of the most fun-loving and memorable characters in the Country Bear Jamboree.
