Flying Saucers | Disneyland

Last Updated on: March 26th, 2024

The Flying Saucers was a former attraction at Disneyland in California. It operated from 1961 to 1966 and was located in Tomorrowland.

The Flying Saucers attraction was inspired by the idea of hovering or floating vehicles, reminiscent of UFOs or flying saucers. The experience allowed guests to ride in individual saucer-shaped vehicles that floated on a cushion of air.

The vehicles were controlled by the guests’ body movements as they tried to navigate and glide across a large, flat surface. The goal was to try and maintain balance and control while moving around the area, similar to riding a hovercraft.

While the Flying Saucers attraction was unique and innovative, it presented operational and technical challenges, and it was ultimately closed in 1966. The area that housed the attraction remained vacant for many years until it was later transformed into the “Redd Rockett’s Pizza Port” restaurant.
