Disney and Pixar have officially announced the development of “Coco 2,” the sequel to their acclaimed 2017 animated film “Coco.” Scheduled for a theatrical release in 2029, the sequel will reunite the original creative team, including directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, along with producer Mark Nielsen.
The original “Coco” followed the journey of 12-year-old Miguel Rivera, who aspired to become a musician despite his family’s ban on music. His adventure led him to the vibrant Land of the Dead, where he uncovered hidden family secrets. The film was celebrated for its authentic portrayal of Mexican culture and traditions, particularly the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), and received numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song (“Remember Me”).
While specific plot details for “Coco 2” remain under wraps, Disney CEO Bob Iger has indicated that the sequel will be “full of humor, heart, and adventure.” Fans eagerly await further announcements as the project progresses.
