Disney has officially announced one of its most exciting character innovations yet-a fully free-roaming robotic Olaf, set to arrive at both Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland in 2026. The reveal marks a major step forward in Disney’s ongoing push to bring characters to life in ways that feel more authentic, responsive, and interactive than ever before.

This new Olaf is part of Disney Imagineering’s next generation of autonomous character technology. Unlike traditional meet-and-greet figures or puppeteered characters, the robotic Olaf is built to walk independently, gesture with fluid motion, and display expressive behaviors that mirror his personality from Frozen. Early footage and demonstrations show Olaf waddling, looking around with curiosity, and responding to guests in real time-signals that Imagineering has leveled up both mobility and emotional expression in their robotics work.

The character’s development builds on years of experimental projects including the free-walking Groot figure, the expressive Project Kiwi platform, and the agile Judy Hopps prototype showcased earlier this year. Disney has not yet shared the specific locations or debut dates for Olaf’s rollout at each resort, but Imagineers confirmed he will appear in outdoor areas and guest-facing environments rather than being limited to staged meet-and-greets. His introduction aligns perfectly with both resorts’ ongoing expansions, including the Frozen-themed land at Hong Kong Disneyland and continued character experiences planned for Disneyland Paris.
