Magic Kingdom Main Street USA

Main Street USA is the first themed land that guests encounter when they enter the Magic Kingdom theme park at Walt Disney World Resort. It is designed to resemble a typical turn-of-the-20th-century American town, and it serves as the main entrance to the park. Main Street USA is known for its nostalgic and charming atmosphere.
Attractions on Main Street USA include the Main Street Vehicles, a fleet of vintage vehicles such as horse-drawn streetcars, a fire engine, and a jitney that take guests on a leisurely tour of the area, and the Walt Disney World Railroad, a train that circles the park and makes stops at Frontierland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland.
Main Street USA also features a variety of shops and dining options, such as the Confectionery, which offers a wide variety of sweet treats, and the Emporium, which is the largest store on Main Street and offers a wide variety of Disney-themed merchandise. Main Street USA is a great stop for visitors looking to take a step back in time, to enjoy a charming and nostalgic setting and to find a special souvenir to remember their trip to the Magic Kingdom.
Magic Kingdom Main Street USA History:
- 1971: Main Street USA opens at the Magic Kingdom with attractions including Walt Disney World Railroad, Main Street Vehicles, Penny Arcade, Main Street Cinema, and Harmony Barber Shop.
- 1973: Swan Boats and Walt Disney Story are added to Main Street USA.
- 1983: Swan Boats close.
- 1984-1986: Expansions and incorporation of adjacent shops into the Emporium.
- 1992: Walt Disney Story closes and is replaced by Exposition Hall.
- Mid-1990s: Closure of various shops on Main Street to expand the Main Street Athletic Club.
- 1998: Main Street Cinema is transformed into the Art of Disney gift shop.
- 2001: Harmony Barber Shop is moved to Town Square to make way for expansion of the Emporium.
- 2010: Interior layout of the Emporium is altered.
- 2014: Redevelopment of the “hub” section of Main Street USA, including the removal of Rose Garden and Swan Boats landing.
- 2015: Main Street Plaza Gardens West and East open, featuring new foliage, water features, and FastPass+ Wishes viewing areas.
- 2017: Plans announced for a new theater based on the Willis Wood theater, but later cancelled.
- 2019: Town Square Theater becomes home to Mickey and Minnie’s Celebration Center.
