Rainbow Caverns Mine Train | Disneyland

Last Updated on: March 26th, 2024

The Rainbow Caverns Mine Train was an attraction at Disneyland that operated from 1956 to 1959. It was located in Frontierland and was a precursor to the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad attraction that now occupies the same area.

The attraction consisted of a mine train ride that took guests through a series of colorful caverns and past waterfalls and other scenic features. The ride was designed to be a relaxing and enjoyable experience that would give guests a taste of the American West and the excitement of mining.

One of the most memorable features of the Rainbow Caverns Mine Train was the rainbow-colored caves that the train passed through. These caves were illuminated with special lighting effects that made them appear to be filled with a dazzling array of colors.

The Rainbow Caverns Mine Train was eventually replaced by the Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland attraction in 1960, which expanded upon the original concept and added new features such as animatronic animals and a greater emphasis on natural scenery. The Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland operated until 1977, when it was replaced by the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad coaster that remains a popular attraction at Disneyland today.
