Big Changes at Hollywood Studios: MuppetVision 3D Closing, Muppets Taking Over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster

Disney has announced significant changes to its Hollywood Studios park, including the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D to make way for a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land and the reimagining of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster with a Muppets overlay.

MuppetVision 3D, a beloved attraction since 1991 and the final project overseen by Jim Henson, is set to close to accommodate the forthcoming Monstropolis area. This new land will feature a suspended roller coaster inspired by the door transportation system from the original film, along with themed dining and shopping experiences. The transformation will also repurpose the current MuppetVision theater for a new, yet-to-be-announced experience.

Simultaneously, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will undergo a thematic overhaul, replacing Aerosmith with the Muppets. The reimagined attraction will showcase characters like Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, immersing guests in a rockin’ music festival atmosphere. This change aligns with earlier hints from Jeff Yorkes, co-creator of “The Muppets Mayhem,” who had pitched a Muppets retheme for the coaster.

While specific closing dates for both attractions have not been announced, Disney assures guests that there will be ample opportunity to experience the current versions before their transformations. These developments mark a significant evolution in Hollywood Studios’ offerings, blending classic Disney characters with new, immersive experiences.
