Who is Animal?

Animal is a beloved character from The Muppets, known for being the wild, energetic, and often unpredictable drummer of the fictional band Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.

He is a classic example of controlled chaos, embodying raw energy with his loud, frenetic behavior, love of drumming, and very limited vocabulary. His appearance is distinctive with his bright red hair, wild facial features, and chains around his wrists, symbolizing his untamed personality. Despite his wildness, Animal is often a source of humor and charm, making him one of the standout characters in The Muppets ensemble.

Animal has been performed and voiced by several puppeteers over the years:

Frank Oz originally portrayed Animal and is largely responsible for defining the character’s personality and mannerisms.
Eric Jacobson took over the role in the early 2000s and continues to perform Animal in most current appearances.
