Chip ‘n Dale are Disney’s most famous duo of mischievous chipmunks. Since their debut in 1943’s Private Pluto, they have evolved from nameless forest dwellers into global icons, detective agency owners, and park fan-favorites.

How to Tell Chip ‘n Dale Apart

Even for the biggest Disney fans, telling these two apart can be tricky. Here is the definitive “cheat sheet” to use during your next character meet-and-greet:

Chip (The Leader)

Nose: Small, black, and shaped like a chocolate chip.
Teeth: One single tooth centered in the middle.
Personality: The “brains” of the operation. He is logical, responsible, and often frustrated by Dale’s antics.

Dale (The Goofball)

Nose: Larger, red, and bulbous.
Teeth: Two widely-spaced teeth (like a gap-toothed grin).
Personality: Carefree, mischievous, and often distracted. He is the “Type-B” soul of the duo.

2026 Location Alert: Animal Kingdom Shakeup

As of February 2, 2026, Chip ‘n Dale have officially moved from their long-time home at Donald’s Dino-Bash! in DinoLand U.S.A. Because of the Tropical Americas expansion, they have retired their dinosaur “onesies” and can now be found in their classic safari outfits at the Palm Courtyard (located just outside the main turnstiles near the Joffrey’s stand).

Movies, TV, and The Rescue Rangers

While they began as antagonists for Pluto and Donald Duck, they reached peak popularity in the late 1980s with Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers. This legacy was celebrated in the 2022 Emmy-winning Disney+ film, which introduced “CGI surgery” into the Disney lore and featured a meta-commentary on the entertainment industry.
